We are proud to announce that the Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command has approved the use of Atmospheric Plasma Solutions, Inc (APS) coating removal system for use on all surface ships, aircraft carriers, and submarines subject to certain limitations.
PlasmaBlast® uses a cold plasma, so substrate temperatures are typically less than 100°C. As with any other industrial tool, proper use and training are required.
The system uses only compressed air and electricity, and has an on/off switch. We recommend the PlasmaBlast® operator wear a long sleeve shirt, gloves, clear plastic safety glasses and hearing protection. There are no dangerous light emissions, so adjacent work can continue.
About 60% of the paint or coating is converted into a safe level of carbon dioxide and water vapor. The ablated material becomes non-toxic gases, and the inorganic components of the coating are released as a dust that can be easily vacuumed.
Coating is removed down to the bare substrate, without changing the surface profile. If there’s good surface roughness under the old paint, you’ll have a good profile after using PlasmaBlast® and be ready to apply new paint or coating.
